Vampire Surf Club started with a simple need. As a fair-skinned surfer, managing sun exposure has always been my challenge. But here's the truth - whether you tan easily or not, UV rays damage our skin, speed up aging, and are the leading cause of skin cancer.
It happened during a surf trip to Maui. The waves were pumping, but I couldn't stay out for long. My zinc and sunscreen would wash off pretty quickly, and any part of my body that was uncovered would end up badly sunburned. To make matters worse, the sunscreen on my legs would transfer to the board, making the wax slippy.
Frustrated, I searched for a solution. I drove around to local surf shops and random stores looking for any surfable clothing that could protect me from the sun - hats, leggings, rash guards - anything to keep me in the water longer. What I cobbled together marginally worked but looked ridiculous. That's when I realized the surf industry focuses more on selling an image - unrealistic, scantily clad models - than providing what surfers actually need. We deserve better.

As an independent start-up we’re slowly building our product line based on our experience as surfers, and feedback from our community. Every piece is something we’d want to wear—designed to meet real needs, both in and out of the water.
